Imagine three master craftsmen. The first is a blacksmith. He takes an ordinary piece of iron and, by working it inside a magnetic field, turns it into a powerful, permanent magnet. The second is a chemist. He takes a cloudy solution and, by creating exactly the right conditions, grows a perfectly pure and transparent crystal inside it. The third is a distiller. He takes a large amount of grape juice and, by boiling away the «water», obtains a tiny drop of precious, concentrated spirit.

These three processes — magnetisation, crystallisation, and distillation — are perfect metaphors for three master-level techniques in working with the mind.

You can learn to «magnetise» your positive states, making them remarkably stable. To «crystallise» your thoughts, turning them into unshakeable clarity. And to «distil» your desires, arriving at their purest, most concentrated essence.

Entropy Reduction via Neural Crystallisation

The brain operates as a predictive processing engine, continuously generating internal models of the world and comparing them against incoming sensory data. When these models conflict — when belief, desire, and reality are misaligned — the system registers high informational entropy: a measure of disorder, unpredictability, and unresolved variance in the cognitive signal stream.

According to Karl Friston's Free Energy Principle (FEP), the nervous system is fundamentally driven to minimise 'surprise' — the metabolic cost of maintaining contradictory predictions. High entropy states force the prefrontal cortex and anterior cingulate cortex to burn disproportionate glucose resolving conflicts between competing cognitive subroutines. The result is experienced subjectively as mental fog, indecision, and fatigue. Crystallisation — finding a single, precise formulation — functions as a data-compression event: redundant processing loops collapse, and the freed metabolic resource registers as a felt surge of clarity and energy.

Crystal or Stone?

Crystallising clarity must never tip over into fanaticism.

  • Crystal (Clarity):
    Transparent, lets light through, yet has structure. You feel confident, but you remain open to new information.
  • Stone (Dogma):
    Opaque, blocks new information. «I figured it all out once and for all — don't argue with me.»

A true Master always leaves one facet of the crystal unfinished, ready to be cut further. Don't cement your mind shut.
