Creative Crisis and Burnout:
How to Reboot Your Brain (The Vacuum Technique)
Have you ever had this happen with your computer? You’ve been working for hours, with dozens of tabs and programs open. At some point, the system starts to "lag," freeze, or stop responding to commands altogether. Applications conflict with each other, and the RAM (working memory) is completely overloaded. What do you do in that situation? You hit the "Reset" button.
The computer shuts down for a moment, clears all the clutter from its memory, and then restarts—fresh, fast, and ready to work again.
Our consciousness, especially our sphere of desires, functions in a very similar way. After long periods of intense activity, it can "hang." Old motivations no longer inspire you, and new ones fail to surface. You hit a creative or motivational dead end. In these moments, the most effective solution is a conscious, intentional "system reboot."
